| notes | The revised Cambridge Scale of Occupations is a continous measure of social and material advantage, which takes the value 00.01 to 99.99. It is based on the assumption that the major basis of social inequality is differentials in employment, and that social interaction on the basis of equality (friendship/marriage) reflects these differentials. The scores can only be used with an LS extract which includes employment status and occupational group. (The 223 Occupational Unit Groups of the 1970 OPCC Classification of Occupations and the 350 Occupational Unit codes for occupations coded using the 1980 Classification.) While a separate scale was produced for men and women, the scores on each are comparable. For further information see Prandy K (1990) Revised Cambridge Scale of Occupation , Sociology, Vol 24: 4 |
