| notes | The Welsh language question on the 2001 Census form asked people in Wales about their ability to read, speak, write and understand Welsh (or do none of the above). The 5-digit response to the question contains five binary indicators (yes/no), one for each of the 5 tick boxes in the question. This information should be held in the variable NLANP0 in the LS. In fact, the information is broken down into 4 separate variables (NLANRP0, NLANUP0, NLANSP0, NLANWP0) and generic Welsh language variable (NLANP0) has been overwritten (except for intial extract only cases). Researchers should therefore disregard NLANP0 for analysis. |
