| notes | During processing the responses to the question are held in a compound field that gives the relationship of that person to all other people in the household. Reciprocal relationships (ie those that are implied by a given relationship) are also held in this field. For example, person 2 is not asked to provide a relationship to person 3, but the relationship can be determined from the relationship to person 2 provided by person 3. The information is used to derive the family variables but is not otherwise used in standard output. The list below gives the codes applicable to each digit in the variable. The value of the nth digit represents the relationship of the LS member to person n in the household. The position occupied by the LS member themself in the household is shown by an N in that position in the RELTSHIP11 array. The 7th digit and above contain additional Xs where the relationship cannot be determined. (See HH_PERS_NO for the number of the LS member within the household). |
