notesIt should be noted that the sex discrepancy field for Widow(er)hoods is calculated differently from other events. The Widow(er)hood record only carries the sex of the deceased spouse of LS Member, since it is assumed that the sex of the deceased is the opposite to that of the spouse of the deceased, i.e. LS member. The sex of the deceased spouse of the LS Member is checked against the sex of the LS Member held on the core record. If they are the same, then SEXDISC=57 is added to RECTYPE 11 and the opposite sex to that held on the core record added to SEXSPWI on record 57. It should also be noted that unlike other events, Births to Sample Mothers and Fathers do not contain the sex of the LS Member. The sex is checked against the core record and in the unlikely event of a mismatch, the sex discrepancy indicator is set but the sex variable is not added to the event record. For Infant Mortality files, when reading a Birth to Sample Mother record, if the sex of the LS Member is not equal to female the sex discrepancy indicator is set to 58 or 68. The variable 'SEX' is added to the Infant Mortality event record.
